BLUE CENTAUR
One can only feel so much and stay strong. The strength it takes to keep going despite absorbing the pain and troubles around us, eventually will become what seems unbearable. At this point we do not break, we do not give up, but we must surrender to ourselves, to our reality, and go on. As time moves on, we realize little pieces of our once whole selves, have chipped away, have been broken. In due course these gaps, cracks, and chips will be filled in with love, and nourishing. Maybe not completely, but enough to keep going.
The piece Centaur represents this pain, sometimes described as torture, that we endure. The horse represents the strength and power of the body to keep persevering, where the male torso represents the soul and mind of the individual carrying the weight and pain so others won’t have to. The "s" curve of the torso is an exemplary example of Egger’s use of non conventional expressive gesture. An expression emphasizing surrender, but not in the sense of giving up, only a surrender to one’s psyche knowing they must give in and accept the pain, rather than pretend it isn’t there.
